The magnetic structure of neutron stars and their surface-to-core temperature relation

چکیده

We study the relation between the mean effective surface temperature T s and the internal temperature Tb for magnetic neutron stars, assuming that the magnetic field near the surface has a presumably small-scale structure. The heavy-element (iron) and light-element (accreted) heat-blanketing envelopes are considered, and the results are compared with the case of a dipole magnetic field. We argue that the difference in the Tb(T s)-relation for different magnetic configurations is always much smaller than a possible difference caused by variations of the chemical composition in the envelope.

Different‎ Magnetic Field ‎Distributions‎ in Deformed Neutron Stars‎

‎In this work, we review the formalism which would allow us to model magnetically deformed neutron stars. Thermal structure and cooling of neutron stars with magnetized envelopes

The thermal structure of neutron stars with magnetized envelopes is studied using modern physics input. The relation between the internal (Tint) and local surface temperatures is calculated and fitted by analytic expressions for magnetic field strengths B from 0 to 10 G and arbitrary inclination of the field lines to the surface. The luminosity of a neutron star with dipole magnetic field is ca...

Thermal Structure and Cooling of Superfluid Neutron Stars with Accreted Magnetized Envelopes

We study the thermal structure of neutron stars with magnetized envelopes composed of accreted material, using updated thermal conductivities of plasmas in quantizing magnetic fields, as well as equation of state and radiative opacities for partially ionized hydrogen in strong magnetic fields. The relation between the internal and local surface temperatures is calculated and fitted by an analyt...

Signature of deconfinement with spin down compression in cooling hybrid stars

The thermal evolution of neutron stars is coupled to their spin down and the resulting changes in structure and chemical composition. This coupling correlates stellar surface temperatures with rotational state as well as time. We report an extensive investigation of the coupling between spin down and cooling for hybrid stars which undergo a phase transition to deconfined quark matter at the hig...

Diffusive Nuclear Burning in Neutron Star Envelopes

We calculate the rate of hydrogen burning for neutron stars (NSs) with hydrogen atmospheres and an underlying reservoir of nuclei capable of proton capture. This burning occurs in the exponentially suppressed diffusive tail of H that extends to the hotter depths of the envelope where protons are rapidly captured. This process, which we call diffusive nuclear burning (DNB), can change the H abun...
